Concerned parent!

I am continuously fighting germs it seems. First one child gets ill then the next. I honestly try to crank up their little immune systems with vitamin c and, as best I can, with healthy food.

The uphill battle I seem to face is a lack of hygiene when they are away from home and in the care of their schools.

I understand lack of funding and so many issues our public schools face, but seriously, simple hand soap?!?

My kids tell me there isn't any in the bathrooms. I said there must be hand cleaner somewhere? They say no.
I honestly don't understand when hand soap and hand sanitizer was on their school supply shopping list.

Assuming every student brought their school supplies, there should be more than enough hand soap for the entire school. So where did it go? And why is there no soap in the bathrooms?

Flu, colds, pink eye and I don't even want to consider the horrors of hepatitis! And worse, my son says some kids don't even wash their hands! Ewwwww!!! My inner girl is screaming germy coodies!

I have so much respect for our teachers and schools, we can't let our teachers get sick to.

Solutions?!? I have no idea where to even start, except to insist my kids keep hand sanitizer with them at all times.

I don't remember having these kinds of issues when I was a kid at school. Yes, broken bathrooms, which is still an issue. I won't even tell you how much my older son complains that bathrooms are often closed and there are no available facilities at all.

It's a basic need. We all need bathrooms, we all need clean water, and please can we have hand soap in the bathrooms. And for those kids that don't wash their hands, I hope they don't spread illness in their own families.

Wishing you and your family to be healthy always.

Love and Aloha,
Maile

Set backs suck!

I hate when the scale moves in the up direction! But I can't blame the scale. It was just a lack of discipline and I took my time getting myself back to my routine.

Life is full of ups and downs, and although I'm back on track again, the scale will eventually reflect the effort I've put in to get myself where I want to be.

In fact I was surprised at how quickly it began to minus again. I love my scale. I can only chalk up quick weight loss due to all the muscle I have added to my body. It has lovingly remembered that weight loss is the goal and went right back to cranking up my metabolism to handle the extra influx of calories.

I remember this quote all the time, "you didn't gain the weight in a day, so don't expect to lose it in a day."

For this time period, it was about five pounds that jumped up my weight over the past week. And although I thought I was just gaining more muscle, my jeans told me the truth.

Happy my jeans were looking great today and I feel better. When I'm off my exercise routine, I easily get distracted and forget all my good habits. I could say that I was under the influence of the weekend, but I knew better. I can't go back in time to fix anything, but I can increase my workout now and get myself moving faster and more energized to my goal of optimal health.

Wishing you a wonderful healthy life.

Sweet dreams

I've stayed up too late again and by my calculations, I'm not sure I can squeeze in as many hours as I want to sleep before the alarm is set to wake me :( ugh...oh well, it's almost the weekend again...halfway there in just a few hours.

Precious sleeping hours...

Sweetest dreams,

What's for dinner?

Oh, dinnertime again! I've just finished my workout and my dinner plans are just a nice salad. Of course that is not what my family wants to eat.

Here we go, proper portion size servings of last nights BBQ feast. Fingers crossed I don't get any complaints.

It's never to early to learn healthy eating habits.

It's been a wonderful weekend and after a couple days off our normal routine, I realize how easily my family ditches all the good eating habits of the week and does whatever they want on the weekends.

As they are getting older and more than capable of cooking and feeding themselves, the choices they make now can easily become good habits or bad habits.

In an attempt to nicely convince them to make better choices, on their own, I hope to appeal to their curious reasoning and logic by educating them in nutrition.

I don't know all there is about it either and I look forward to the journey of good eating as a family. I want them to be healthy and I want to be healthy for them.

So, on this topic, I had a wonderful discussion with my overly busy mom sister-in-law Tabitha, who has agreed to share in my vlogging episodes on this topic.

If you have questions about healthy eating you can email us at foreverfitandhealthy@gmail.com.
We look forward to this new adventure. As mom's, our family's health is our greatest concern. We wish you and your family good health always.

Release

Clearing out the old and allow the new you to shine through! No doubt you've heard that before, but have you truly understood the power of clearing?

I spent a day just being lost in thought, searching for answers and solutions and where do any of us need to begin?

In the middle of the night, (it's always the middle of the night 0.0) I got my answer and it was to do more clearing. This time energy clearing.

We all have baggage, and sadly it can manifest in so many ways. Physically on our bodies, it's fat, or premature aging. I realized I was carrying so much of other people's energy on my body.

Opinions and judgements are energy and store easily as fat. Kindness for taking on other people's burdens is energy that can store on our bodies as fat. Fat is dangerous because it can cause illness.

I sat quietly and asked all this energy to be released out of my body and my life. I sent back all energy of those that I was carrying and with it healing. I felt so much lighter and happier after I did this, and I will probably have to do it everyday until I learn to no longer take on the weight of the world.

Prayer, meditation, angels, whatever higher power you believe in, or just empowering yourself, please release any negative energy from your beautiful body and stop carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Eventually I know it will reflect on the scale, but feeling lighter, is a beginning to my own healing and I wish it for all my loved ones. I wish it for you.

I wish you optimal health and wellness always. You are a beautiful being and I wish you to be the best version of you and the most amazing life. You are blessed.

Sending loving and healing energy always.

Aloha,
Maile

So true!

I can wish as much as I want, and believe me I do! I never stop wishing, dreaming and hoping for miracles! It's in my DNA to always have hope.

I am an incurable optimist and I like me that way. My goals and dreams manifest easily and effortlessly because I program my beliefs that way. I surround myself with images and positive people and my own journey isn't easier than anyone else's, I just don't give up.

You will get to wherever your mind focuses your attention and I have to thank every person, every situation and every moment that has shaped my life and continues to mold me into the person I am becoming.

I will never stop changing, learning and achieving my goals and dreams! Our journeys are never one giant step, just a first step followed by a million more.

You are never alone, and I will cheer for your success always! I know you are cheering for mine.

Sending love always <3

Easy French Tips Tip ;)

I don't always have the time to go to the nail salon, and when I finally had an event to go to and looked at how bad my peeling nail polish looked, I remembered and old trick for an easy French tip manicure.

Tape is awesome for not just taping things closed or sticking things to things...you can also use tape for getting great manicures at home.

I love painter's tape. Just like those commercials you see on tv, make the nice straight lines with the painters tape and then paint. You can be as messy as you want. Then carefully remove the tape to reveal the perfect straight edge of color. Gorgeous!

Clear gift tape works ok to, seriously you could make anything work, even some junk mail will do. I admit that would be more challenging but if you could pull it off, that is talent ;)

So save yourself some time, and money. Even if you splurged on the fanciest nail polish, it would still be cheaper than the nail salon, and that's not even including tip$!

Have a great week, and even better it's almost over and the weekend will be back again! I'm loving this life, I hope you are having fun today to.

Many blessings always.

Maile

Detox your gallbladder!

Your gallbladder is so important because the gall bladder is responsible for fat digestion.
To help your gallbladder work more efficiently, drink the juice of half a lemon with warm water.
The lemon juice in warm water is also great for satisfying cravings you may have throughout the day.

This simple concoction gets an update via Dr. Oz. He says this lemon and water elixir is also great for your liver. But he adds a few drops of hot sauce to the lemon water, and says it will boost blood flow and help detoxify your liver.

An easy morning daily detox you can help your gallbladder and your liver.

From Dr. Oz…
Your liver acts primarily as your body’s filter, cleaning the blood and aiding digestion and metabolism. A fatty liver occurs when your body becomes overrun with fats and is no longer able to detoxify itself. A healthy diet rich in greens and lean protein allows your liver to do its job properly without being overrun by toxins. However, when you indulge for years in unhealthy items such as those associated with the all-American diet – donuts, fried chicken and burgers – your liver clogs up, becoming fatty and toxic.

Conditions such as diabetes and obesity that are normally associated with a clogged heart are also tied to a clogged liver. In fact, bodily damage starts in the liver before it snakes it way up to the heart. But here’s the good news: Your liver can literally regenerate itself.

Warm water aids digestion, lemon juice contains vitamin C, a potent antioxidant that helps calm liver inflammation and protect against free radical damage. Hot pepper sauce contains capsaicin, which boosts blood flow and certain enzymes responsible for detoxifying your liver.

Wishing you optimal health!

Love and Aloha,
Maile

Sometimes I feel like this ;)

Mmmm chocolate is an indulgence. It causes a happy chemical reaction in my brain and I smile and thank heaven that it exists! Life wouldn't be as fun if I didn't have it every once in a while.

As it is late and bedtime, I will wait til tomorrow, but I will be dreaming about it tonight...probably ;)

Sweet dreamy thoughts.

Sleepy giggles ;)

My son had to draw blood on Thursday for a bunch of tests his doctor wanted. He was so freaked out.

"Will it hurt? How much blood are they going to take? Is it going to take a long time? I don't think I can go to school." He bombarded me with continuous questions and anxious statements.

All I could do was calmly reassure him it would be ok, he would survive this ;) lol
The look on his face was much like in this funny photo.

In the end, it was fine. He lived! Whew! He said it wasn't that bad but complained that his arm hurt too much from the teeny tiny needle poke and said he couldn't go to school.

He did get to stay home, as he had a doctor's note, but I did have to roll my eyes a few times...I couldn't help it, it was kind of funny. I can't wait til he's older and I can tease him about it later...oh remember when they drew blood that one time??? Ha ha ha.

My boys, I love them, they make my life fun.

Living the dream life ;)

Love your hair!

I am tough on my hair... between workouts, hula, and over-drying it with my flat iron or hair dryer, my hair has taken a lot of abuse.

A three day weekend afforded me some quality time to take care of my tresses and they are looking fabulous again.

Easy hair mask ingredients are hiding in your pantry. Easily mix up a simple concoction of proteins. Our hair loves proteins just like our muscles. It makes your hair shiny and bouncy again.

Eggs are perfect! If I cook up an egg white omelette, I usually will cook up the yolks for my dog-it makes her coat shiny :) Today, I saved them for an overdue hair treatment.

Three yolks and about 1/4 cup olive oil blended with 3 tablespoons of Hawaiian salt. I like the salt for the exfoliating scrub on my scalp, but it also makes your hair soft, just like swimming in the ocean all day. (Amounts are not exact, just mix up what you need, I have very long hair and needed at least a cup of hair mask to coat every strand.)

Leave on your hair for thirty minutes and then rinse. Wash your hair again with your favorite shampoo and conditioner (you don't want your hair smelling like eggs and oil) and towel dry. While its still damp, I add a little of my favorite tri-protein conditioner and leave it in.

Brush and style your gorgeous locks and repeat at least once a month for awesome hair days ;)

Blessings for an amazing weekend!

Maile

Happy Valentine's Day and Night ;)

It's been a beautiful Valentine's Day with my boys. Relaxing and celebrating this day to recognize love.

I'm so proud of them and they make my life so happy! I cherish every moment I get to have these lazy hang out days.

It's been a busy week and today was about being with them. As it is Valentine's Day...I didn't go crazy with lots of treats, but I did buy them Ice cream. We all had a proper portion serving 1/2 cup which was a 150 calories for mint chocolate chip ice cream (our family favorite).

I would be thrilled if I am able to instill these lessons of good eating habits to last their lifetime. They can still have yummy treats but it just has to be an appropriate portion.

Hope you have a tasty Valentine's Day treat ;) wishing you lots of yummy bites.

Aloha,
Maile

Healthy After School Treats! Yum!

It's been a long grueling day at school...or so I've been told, and my boys always walk in the door almost starving, so they whine. Healthy snacks is sometimes a challenge as they are both very picky!

They both like vanilla yogurt. Today I just happened to pick up bananas and fresh strawberries on my home. They won't necessarily make anything for themselves, they usually want it done for them, so I was sneaky.

I got out a beautiful bowl, scooped in 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt and beautifully sliced 3 fresh strawberries on top. They watched, almost drooling, and decided that didn't look as healthy as I had made it sound. A minute later they got out bowls and duplicated my efforts.

The watch and learn method of teaching those healthy eating habits. It's hard to tell them what to do at their age, now I'm more of a supervisor/manager in their lives. As long as I do my best to lead by example they do follow, and I'm so proud of them!

Many blessings always,
Maile

New Year! New Energy! New You!

What the mind conceives, the body can achieve with commitment and dedication!
I absolutely believe this. It's my mantra and my constant preaching to my family that you will become what you say and think!

Nothing is impossible, but it can be challenging. Focus your energy and thoughts in the positive outcome of your dreams and wishes and you will achieve them.

Ideas will come to you, help and resources will come to you. Just allow yourself to be successful and it will happen. Truly your only obstacle is you.

Make a commitment to yourself that you will take care of the beautiful body you have. This is my personal commitment to myself. Please feel free to add to it or change it as it will fit your own goals and dreams.

I, ___________________ promise to:
Feed my body right and give it lots of exercise to be healthy and strong.
Commit myself to eating healthy foods that will fuel my body and achieve my optimal health.
I will keep myself accountable of what I am eating, by journaling and writing down what I feed my body.
I promise that I will rid my mind of negative thinking, and doubts. I will reprogram my thoughts to positive and affirmative thoughts of success in all areas of my life.
I forgive myself for the past and look forward to this new opportunity of a fresh start and a great new healthy life.
I deserve to be the best ME I can be!
I always think of others, and care for them, and I will ensure that I can be there when I am my healthiest.
I promise to love my body and my life.

-The next step after you make this commitment to yourself, is to clean out all the naughty junk food in your house. You can give it away or plan a party to share it. Take as much time as you need to clear away things that won't help you achieve success.

When you go shopping next, fill your pantry with healthy whole foods, organic vegetables, and fruits, lean proteins. You are worthy of good quality food and nutrients. Buy the best that you can afford. You are investing in yourself. You are so loved, and your life is worth so much. Cherish your health and make it a priority for all those that you love.

This is a great new year! I feel successful already. Mahalo for all your support and love, I am a stronger and better person because of all the amazing friends I have.
And although I don't see any of you often enough, I know you will always be a part of my life and I wish you all so much success and love in your own lives.

Maile

Party Weekend!

Xin nian kaui le! (Happy New Year!)

I have truly enjoyed my weekend celebrating my nephew's first birthday! So nice to see everyone and although it was a lot of work, everyone enjoyed themselves and the food was delicious!

I was so naughty and didn't count one calorie or track any of the tempting treats I enjoyed. I did try to journal it, ended up taking a photo of my plate, but I couldn't even guess the amounts.

I'm not worried about it really. Life is filled with parties, and at the end of the day filled with furniture moving, decorating, food, and helping anywhere I could (all in my cute, not broken in yet, heels) I kicked off my shoes and enjoyed a delicious sample of the fancy buffet. Sam Choy's BBQ ribs, chicken, noodles, crab dip on fancy garlic buttered toast, and homemade from the Big Island, Tab's sister Michelle's Rainbow birthday cake! She also made delicious almond cookies! Yum!

The next day, with so many leftovers, we had to have another party just to get it out of the fridge. I still couldn't count calories, and I forgot to take a photo. Too busy playing with my adorable nephews ;)

Tomorrow, I will get myself back on track. I promise to journal, track, measure everything. The weekend was wonderful and a perfect way to celebrate this new year!

Happy Lunar New Year!
Kung hee fat choy!

Love and Aloha,
Maile

Treat yourself!

I love ice cream! I also have a sugar addiction like most people. I still lose weight and I still indulge in delicious treats, BUT...I plan for it. You knew there had to be a BUT.

Life is fabulous and food should always be delicious. My caloric intake numbers are limited if I want to lose weight, or just maintain it. I'm not going to waste even one single calorie on something I don't want to eat. So I plan my meals ahead of time. I leave room for treats so the chocolate loving girl inside me can have something to keep her happy. I would give up sugar entirely if I could. Soon I will, again, but for now, like any addiction you wean it our of your system slowly.

This weekend will be a challenge. Big party and I know there will be cake, It's my nephews birthday and I am going to help him celebrate and eat a piece of yummy birthday cake. It's probably bad luck not to eat cake, his wish may not come true, at least that's what I want to believe today and tomorrow...ha ha, maybe.

Seriously, a little preparation ahead of time will keep the pounds from moving up on the scale, and hopefully going in the minus direction. This is where I love math, subtraction for weight loss and addition for money ;) I will squeeze in a good workout today and tomorrow morning and evening, to make sure I have lots of muscle to burn through those extra calories.

We all know muscle is hungry and why we want to keep our bodies toned...the more muscle, the more calories your body can burn and technically the more calories you can eat- Only if you exercise that body of yours! Easily discover your calorie intake numbers and exercise needed for your height and weight, by looking it up online. There are a million charts, even easier there are apps.

I like the live strong app. It has a great list of foods and a great website. I've tried many, and also am using Shape Up for Iphone, but my favorite is TLS slim. That one has recipes and a personal coach. Ask me if you want more info on that one.

Now it's time to plan the rest of my day, and leave room for a treat. Healthy whole foods, will fill you up and get your body healthy. I will include more recipes and hope to do cooking segments soon. For now, this ice cream with mint and good chocolate chips is one of my favorite treats. Btw...I usually have my treats early in the day, and very rarely at night.

Wishing you a lovely weekend full of yummy food and lots of playtime ;)

Love always,
Maile

Maile Intro Forever Young and Fit Hawaii

It was worth it!

The scale is our friend ;)
This is my mantra for tomorrow morning...

The scale is just a measurement of gravity's force pulling my body down on the planet. I will Forgive any over indulgences because every decadent bite and yummy treat was shared with wonderful friends and family. It was all worth it!

The after effects of the fabulous Super Bowl party may be measured on the bathroom scale, but it will only encourage my efforts for a great morning workout and get me back on track to achieving my optimal health!

I truly hope you enjoyed a beautiful weekend. Sending love and encouragement to you always.

Aloha,
Maile

Happy Saturday

It's the weekend! So much to do today! I hope everyone has an amazing Saturday! It's fun free time...Go out and play!

And drink lots of water!!!

I honestly rarely drink anything else.
Coffee, tea, maybe a nice glass of wine- occasionally. I'm not a fan of soda or too much juice. I love almond milk for smoothies and whole milk, never low fat or skim- they took good stuff out and replace it with not so good stuff. (I don't want to start this topic today, but I will soon.)

Whole, organic, as close to it's original form as possible is what your body will recognize. Everything that is artificial, your body has a difficult time processing which is really the main cause of so much illness.

Take care of your body. You only get one for this lifetime.

I love you all!

Aloha,
Maile

Easy measuring

I am loving my new food scale. It makes it so easy to know exactly how much I am eating.

Measure everything as best you can.

Watch your calories by tracking what you eat.

Eat good whole foods that will fill you up and keep you feeling full.

Avoid sugar as best you can!

I'm currently loving this app- Shape Up. It has a free version in the App Store. I will post the link on Facebook.

Just making small changes to improve your health...
You are a success already!
I'm so proud of you <3
